Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
