Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve last poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers around the world. While wagering on internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to sit at the game with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
