Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
