Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve last poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors in the world. While betting on net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players in the world may be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
