Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest enthusiasts around the world. While playing web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amt.. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world might just be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen gambling on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in cash games?
