Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts in the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
