Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
