Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
