Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the final poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players in the world. While competing in web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found playing net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
