Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
